DNA Oestrogen

Sample Required: Blood | Test Type: Genetic

Key Advantages

  • Identifies polymorphisms in key genes involved in metabolising oestrogen and related compounds
  • Impact of high-risk polymorphisms
  • Intervention strategies for carriers
  • Personal risk factors associated with HRT, Oral Contraceptives, Bio-Identical supplementation and IVF

The DNA Oestrogen genetic test panel tests for high-risk polymorphisms that have been shown to affect the metabolism of oestrogen and related compounds.

RESOURCES

DNALife’s Oestrogen Metabolism and Detoxification test includes 10 genes involved in oestrogen biosynthesis, oestrogen metabolism, as well as phase I and phase II detoxification.

Cumulative exposure to oestrogen has been shown to have a high correlation to the development of breast cancer. The DNA Oestrogen test is therefore particularly important for women considering oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, bio-identical supplementation,  in vitro fertilisation or who have been diagnosed with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.

What is DNA Oestrogen?

Oestrogen hormones affect the growth, differentiation and function of a number of target tissues. Improving oestrogen metabolism is of benefit to women who suffer from oestrogen-dominant conditions such as endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome and uterine fibroid tumours, or where there is a family history of breast, uterine or ovarian cancer, or prostate cancer in men.

The importance of both oestrogen and progesterone in breast cancer development is well established. However, considerable inter-individual variability has been observed in carcinogen metabolism, metabolism of steroid hormones, and phase I and phase II detoxification.

Variations in genes involved in these biological processes help identify a sub-population of women and men with higher lifetime exposure to oestrogens, oestrogen metabolites and other carcinogens. Understanding an individual’s genetic variability will allow for targeted diet, lifestyle and hormone intervention.

The results provide unique information to guide personalised diet, lifestyle, hormone and nutraceutical recommendations. If you are interested in incorporating this test into your practice please contact us for more information.
